Image Isn’t Everything
You hear a lot of talk about how you can milk a table greatly in creating variance between your table image and how you actually play. While this might be true under certain circumstancesnamely, against less attentive playersit also tends to discredit the intelligence of the average poker enthusiast. A lot of the regular players these days are going to recognize your small leaps in change as just that, and still monitor your overall performance, if giving you credit for the ability to switch up suddenly, if not that often.
While table image exploitation surely can pay off, there is a lot more to be said for playing strong and smart across the board. Trying too hard to milk what you think is a false expectation can lead to playing out of your element, and therefore leading away from your central game. Some of the worst plays I’ve made in my poker career have come from thinking I could get away with things that really I could not, as my opponent were as aware of the image milking concept as I was, and were therefore ready for it.
So, by and large, it pays to stick to the best way you know how to play, with moves thrown in based on other poker online players, not on what you think they are thinking of you.
