TalkTalk Opens Digital Heroes Nominations

Telecom service provider TalkTalk has announced that it will be collaborating with Citizens Online this year for the annual Digital Heroes Awards launched by UK’s Digital Champion Martha Lane Fox. The TalkTalk Digital Heroes Awards will honour the contributions of twelve citizens from each of the UK’s regions towards bringing about social change and improvement through the implementation of digital technology in their communities.

The awards carry a grand prize of ₤10,000 for the ultimate winner, and a prize of ₤5,000 each for the other eleven. In addition, TalkTalk will provide free broadband subscription to all winners for a period of 18 months. Each winner should have undertaken successfully a project based on digital technology that has brought about some significant improvement in the lives of people in the local community.

Speaking at the announcement of the awards, Wendy Becker, managing director for TalkTalk said the awards were a great way to acknowledge the contributions of people towards the betterment of their communities using technology. She felt the money would go a long way in making the projects available to a wider audience, thus making Britain a better place to live. From previous winners, the company found out that the prize money made a tremendous difference. The company exhorted charities to nominate their digital champions for the awards at the earliest.

The nomination applications for the awards are available on TalkTalk’s website and need to be submitted before September 11, 2009. The twelve winners will be honoured in a special ceremony at the Houses of Parliament, to be held in November this Year.
