A Day or Night Lantern?
Some people are confused as to weather a wish lantern is meant as a night or day activity. On the one hand, lanterns are light devices, therefore they should be used when it is dark outside where they can be seen all the more clearly, on the other hand, the whole process of launching a lantern is an enjoyable and fulfilling pastime, so why would you want to limit this enjoyment to night time? There’s something to be said for taking your friends out on a lovely afternoon, lighting a lantern, and watching it mingle with the fruits of nature. There’s often more time in the day for such larks. A daytime lantern launch is also less of a marked occasion than an evening one. In the day, it is somewhat akin to flying a kite, whereas in the evening it comes either after a dinner party or other genre of party, or else at a festival. It represents something more profound as it evokes the chinese tradition of launching a lantern into the night sky and watching your anxieties float away. The light is also more visible at night which creates a sort of symbolic gesture of peace and goodwill, the ligt at the end of the tunnel. he lantern becomes a star, rather than a floating object.
